Ainstable Methodist ChurchAinstable Methodist Church Contact: Reverend Colin Marchment
Ainstable is a small village lying on the eastern slopes of the Eden Valley. The Methodist Chapel was built of red sandstone on the edge of the village in 1861, and for the 150th anniversary in 2011 we produced an illustrated paperback containing the history of the chapel. It included many other stories and photographs from around the village, and a copy was given to every household.
We currently have twelve members, and usually hold two, mostly traditional, morning services each month. If we have no organist we use recorded organ music.
We work closely with the Anglican Church in Ainstable, taking turns to hold the Mothering Sunday, Harvest and Christmas carol services for the village. Occasionally we join the Anglicans for Morning Prayer, and they in turn sometimes join us, as our small part of the county-wide aim for mission communities. We also make an annual visit to the Methodist church furthest away in our circuit, in Alston. We hold a biennial Candlelit Carol Service and supper to raise money for local charities, and organise or help with various fundraising events for good causes in the area.
We are always very pleased to welcome visitors.
