Langwathby St PeterLangwathby St Peter Contact: Canon Stephen Pye
St. Peter’s Church is situated in the centre of Langwathby, overlooking the village green. The church is always open and service times are displayed on the notice-board in the porch, with the Sunday service time also displayed outside. We have close links with Langwathby Methodist Church and, on the fourth Sunday of the month, we have a joint service, which alternates between the two churches. We are a friendly, welcoming group who meet for worship and we serve refreshments after the Sunday morning service so that people can stay to catch up with each other’s news and to say hello to visitors. Members of the congregation, together with others from the Methodist church, run a monthly Messy Church in the village hall every second Saturday from 10.30am to 12.30pm. All are welcome. We have good links with Langwathby C of E School. The children provide us with some of their RE work, which we put up in the church porch, and they visit the church to celebrate major festivals. We have set up a Good Neighbours Scheme, which is advertised in the local community magazine, MEMO and, as part of this, we host regular tea parties in the home of one of our churchwardens.
